Lichtweh

"Lichtweh" means homesickness for the light of God. Everyone is born with it, but we can only feel it if we stop fighting God. "Lichtweh" is mentioned as a direct continuation of my first album "Kampfabsage".

In contrast to this album, “Lichtweh” contains two interpretations of old classics from the history of church music („Oh Heiland reiß den Himmel auf!“ and „Gott ist gegenwärtig“). The first is completely transformed into the new era, the second is a gentle text adaptation based on an unconventional rhythmic structure. The album was recorded from June 2015 to January 2017.

Here you can find "Lichtweh" online:

Here you can listen to it directly:

01: Jagst du noch oder glaubst du schon

(=Do you still hunt or do you already believe?) This title is (intentionally) reminiscent of the advertising slogan of a Swedish furniture store and asks a similar question: Do you focus on the essentials in life?

02: Du bist groesser

(=You are greater) Whenever I try to imagine God, I get the same result: He is greater.

03: Ich glaube an Jesus

(=I belive in Jesus) Many of our models for explaining today's world are based on assumptions also known as "axioms". Belief is therefore also widespread among knowledge owners. Fortunately, we can choose for ourselves what we believe in and what we don't believe in. I believe in Jesus.

04: Oh Heiland reiss den Himmel auf

(=Oh saviour, open the sky) This chorale, composed almost 400 years ago during the Thirty Years' War, expresses the people's hope that Jesus will return soon. The new text is not an editing of the original. Rather, it is a fictional series of images of our contemporary society..

05: Stille

(=Silence) A short, quiet moment was set to music here, which interrupts the hectic pace of a perfectly normal day. Such moments can be used as an opportunity to sit back and hear God's voice.

06: Psalm 13 - Wie lange noch ?

(=Psalm 13 - for how much longer ?) Persecuted, rushed and stressed are words that many people use to describe their current situation. Psalm 13 suggests, that this must also have been the case in David's time. However, David trusted God, so the psalm - like this song - ends with an expression of hope.

The text corresponds to the translation by Luther 1984 and has been adjusted here and there according to the rythm of the song.

07: Psalm 113 - Lobet und preiset den Herrn

(=Psalm 113 - Praise the lord) With this psalm, the Israeli hymn of praise for the Passover festival traditionally begins, with which the exodus of Israel from Egyptian captivity is celebrated. Today we still may pass difficult times and we have every reason to thank (sing) God for it.

08: Weg, Wahrheit, Leben

(=way, truth, life) "I am the way, and the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me." Jesus is answering the question for our perspectives beyond our life. A clear word ...

09: Du wehst wo du willst

(=you are breezing wherever you want) Granted, this song is a kind of word construct made up of all of the verbs that came to mind when I was thinking about, what God is doing for us. Without claim of completeness.

10: Gott ist gegenwärtig

(=God is present) Lyrics: Gerhard Tersteegen (about 1727), Melody: Joachim Neander (about 1680). This song lasted for centuries because it is one of the most poetic and expressive depictions of the relationship between God and man. In contrast to the original, minor contemporary updates have been made to the text and the rhythm.
